Daniel T. Smythe (51) – Partner, MatlinPatterson Global Advisers, $9 Billion Distressed Private Equity firm focused on control transactions. Before joining MatlinPatterson in 2006, Mr. Smythe has been in the leveraged debt markets since 1984 with particular focus on high yield, distress and emerging market sovereign debt. Having begun his career on the trading floor at Salomon Brothers (1984-1990), Mr. Smythe spent the 1990s distributing institutionally, high yield and distressed securities at Kidder Peabody, Inc., and Lehman Brothers before co-founding BankBoston’s High Yield effort as Managing Director, Sales. Subsequently Mr. Smythe established a Boston office for NYC based Seaport Group, a distressed bond, bank debt and trade claim broker, working there until 2004 when he entered the alternatives industry as a Managing Director with OneWorld Investments. Mr. Smythe holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business (1984) and a BA from the University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences (1979).
