Directions
Ernie Caballero is the Chief Investment Officer for UPS. Ernie has the fiduciary responsibility for all aspects of the investment portfolios for UPS’ Single Employer Defined Benefit Plans. Assets under management are in excess of $50 billion. Prior to this he was domiciled in Europe, between Brussels & London, overseeing various aspects of the UPS businesses. While in Belgium, he held the roles of CFO for UPS Europe & Emerging Markets Strategy Coordinator for Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. While living in London, he was responsible for Treasury & Trading Operations, Risk Management, and Mergers Acquisitions within the Europe, Middle East and Africa Asia Pacific Regions. He has held many other Audit, Finance, and treasury leadership positions throughout his career.
Caballero is a current board member of CIEBA and Chair of the CIEBA Defined Benefit Committee. He is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Investments and Derivatives Auditor. He also holds an MBA in Finance from Kennesaw State University, GA, an MBA in Total Quality Management from Dowling College, NY, and a BS in Electrical Engineering/Industrial Technology from SUNY Farmingdale. He has also received executive/leadership certificates from Harvard & Emory University.
Jon Glidden, CFA is responsible for Delta Air Lines’ defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans. In this role, he oversees all aspects of the plans including asset allocation, alpha generation, and plan-level risk management.
Prior to joining Delta in 2011, Jon was Director of Manager Research at Wilmington Trust. There he constructed and provided oversight of multi-manager portfolios across both traditional and alternative asset classes. Jon was also a member of Wilmington’s Investment Strategy Team which set strategic and tactical asset allocation for Wilmington’s clients.
Prior to joining Wilmington Trust in 2007, Jon spent six years with Emory University’s Endowment Fund, most recently as the Director of Investment Analysis. In this position, Jon sourced and conducted due diligence on global equity managers, global fixed-income managers, and hedge funds.
Jon holds a master’s degree in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago, an MBA from Emory University, and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He served as an officer in the US Navy as the Tomahawk Missile Officer on USS Stout (DDG-55) and the Weapons and Boarding Officer on USS Firebolt (PC-10).
Stephanie Lang, CFA is CIO of Homrich Berg. Stephanie joined Homrich Berg in 2005 and was named Chief Investment Officer in 2014. She oversees a team and is responsible for asset allocation, the selection and monitoring of traditional and alternative investments, as well as the company’s internal private fund-of-funds. She also chairs the firm’s Investment Committee. Previously, she was a portfolio manager for Bank of America’s private bank as well as equity research with Robinson Humphrey, where she covered technology and media companies. She has been a repeat guest on CNBC and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal and other publications. She is a member of the CFA Institute as well as on the RIA Advisory Board for both JP Morgan and iCapital.
Muthu Muthiah is the Chief Investment Officer at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, stewarding the institution’s assets to create returns that advance the CHOA mission. Previously, he oversaw the strategic and sustainable growth of Inatai Foundation’s investments. Muthu is a seasoned asset management professional, with experience investing globally across various asset classes, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, real assets, and both public and private investments in emerging economies. He has led investment teams and strategies at Emory Investment Management, Covariance Capital Management, the University of Richmond, the State Board of Administration of Florida, and RSM Equico. Outside of work, Muthu reads a lot of nonfiction books, stays active by bicycling or jogging, and enjoys watching Tamil movies. He also likes to travel, including visiting his family and community in India. Muthu holds a BHM from Mangalore University and an MBA from Rollins College.
Moderated by: Emily Hylton, CFA is a senior vice president at Callan. Her focus historically has been on corporate defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Emily brings nearly 20 years of institutional consulting and investment experience advising a wide range of large institutional plans. She is a member of Callan’s Defined Contribution Committee and co-lead of Callan’s Corporate Defined Benefit Focus Group. Prior to joining Callan in 2022, Emily was at Aon Investments USA in a similar capacity. She brings experience on both the buy and sell side – both in fixed income markets as well as prior consulting experience at Towers Watson Investment Services (now WTW) and Hewitt Investment Group (now part of AON).
Emily earned her MBA in finance from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and a BS in analytical finance from Wake Forest University. She is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of CFA Society Atlanta.
